How much does a personal trainer cost in the Netherlands?
Usually between €40 and €90 per hour for a 1-on-1 session. Below: what drives the price, what other formats cost and what to look out for, with the source for every figure.
- 1-on-1: usually €40 to €90 per hour; specialists €90 to €120, sometimes up to €150.
- A pack of 10 sessions is often 10 to 15% cheaper per session.
- Small group (2 to 4 people): €25 to €40 per person per session.
- Always ask about the cancellation rules and whether you need a gym membership.
Rates by experience
The two largest Dutch overviews don’t arrive at exactly the same figures, so here they are side by side.
| Trainer | Trustoo (2026) | Gymsearch (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Starting | €40 – €60 per hour | €50 – €65 per hour (1–3 years’ experience) |
| Experienced | €60 – €90 per hour | €70 – €90 per hour (5+ years) |
| Specialist | €90 – €120 per hour | €100 – €150 per hour |
The difference is mainly at the top end. Trustoo bases its figures on requests made through its own platform. A specialist is, for example, a trainer for rehabilitation, nutrition or a specific sport.
Other formats
| Format | What you roughly pay | Source |
|---|---|---|
| At home | €50 – €150 per session, sometimes plus travel (€5 – €20) | Trustoo |
| Online coaching | €75 – €200 per month | Trustoo; Gymsearch: €100 – €200 |
| Small group (2–4 people) | €25 – €40 per person per session | Gymsearch |
| Pack of 10 sessions | 10 – 15% discount per session | Gymsearch |
What drives the price?
- Experience and specialisation. The more specific the need (rehabilitation, pregnancy, a sport), the higher the rate usually is.
- The location. A trainer with their own studio pays rent; at your home, travel time is added. Training outdoors is often cheaper for the trainer.
- The city. Rates in Amsterdam and Utrecht are higher than in, for example, Drenthe or Zeeland (Gymsearch). There are no exact percentages per city; be wary of articles that give them without a source.
- Session length and format. A 45-minute session costs less than an hour; a pack or a group lowers the price per session.
Costs you might not think of
- Gym membership. If your trainer works in a gym, you sometimes need your own membership there (Trustoo mentions €20 to €70 per month).
- Late cancellation. Many trainers charge a session you cancel at short notice. Ask about the rule upfront.
- Extras. A nutrition plan or measurements are sometimes charged separately.
What you see upfront on Gymies
Gymies is a platform where you compare trainers and book directly. Gymies opens city by city; here’s why. What you see before booking:
- The trainer’s rate. The price you see when booking is what you pay.
- Where you train: studio, gym, outdoors, at your home or online.
- Class packs, if the trainer offers them. A pack is valid for 12 months; unused sessions are refunded on request.
- Group classes: you sign up for free and only pay once the class goes ahead. How it works.
And the cancellation rules, which are the same for every trainer:
- Within 15 minutes of booking: You cancel for free and get everything back.
- Up to 24 hours before the session: You get the session amount back, or the session back on your class pack.
- Within 24 hours of the session: You get nothing back.
- If the trainer cancels: You always get everything back.
How to choose well
- Ask about qualifications. Personal trainer is not a protected title. On Gymies every trainer is checked before their profile goes live. Trainers list their own qualifications on their profile, so feel free to ask.
- Start with one session or a trial session before buying a pack. Some trainers offer a trial session.
- Read reviews from real clients. On Gymies only people who had a session can leave a review.
- Compare the price per session, not just the pack: divide the pack price by the number of sessions.
